40' Steel Flat-End Boxcar classified as an X29 by the PRR. The X29s were 40-foot, 50-ton, all-steel boxcars that became the most prevalent freight car on the PRR during the late steam and transition era. They were built to a design similar to the American Railway Association's standard 40' steel boxcar, but with a slightly shorter height to accommodate tunnels in New York City, although they were not often used for that purpose. The X29 class was a ubiquitous freight car on the PRR, with over 30,000 built between 1924 and 1934.
