General Motors Electro-Motive Division (EMD) GP9 four-axle diesel-electric road switcher locomotive that was built for the Pennsylvania Railroad.  155 units were bult - the GP9 was a classic workhorse road switcher.  Built between 1954 and 1959. The GP9 succeeded the GP7. The lettering "GP" stands for "general purpose".  This locomotive type was offered both with and without control cabs; locomotives built without control cabs were called GP9B locomotives.  GP9 specifications - powered by a 16-cylinder engine, 1,750 horsepower, maximum speed is 65 mph, wheel configuration - B-B wheel arrangement, meaning it has two axles on two four-wheel trucks, and all axles are powered, classified as EFS-17m (Electro-Motive, Freight-Shifter (or road switcher) for its duty, 1,750-horsepower rating & Multiple-unit control).
